SW FL to Maine with Family

Where is the best place in Maine for a family of 4 adults and 3 babies? We%26#39;d like to go over the July 4th holiday--likely 4 nights. We%26#39;d want to rent a house near/on the coast and be near a town (shops..)for easy strolling.

What airport do we fly into from SW FL? How long of a drive to suggested destination would we be looking at?

Most any place in Maine might be fun for four adults and 3 babies. I%26#39;d suggest the Acadia National Park region because it is my favorite -- lots to do, nice villages with strollable sidewalks. Bar Harbor puts on a big July 4th celebration with a blueberry pancake breakfast on the ball field, a home town parade, face painting for the kids, a lobster feed after the parade, bands in the two town parks, and fireworks if it isn%26#39;t too foggy.

You would fly into Bangor, from where it is about an hour%26#39;s drive to Bar Harbor.

You should be looking for lodging yesterday to get some place for that very popular week.

Lodging at this late date is what I was afraid of. As I am not familier, when you stated %26#39;region%26#39; what town specifically should I search--Bar Harbor or other? Any local sites/rental companies to search other than the ones I know of..craigs list, VRBO, homeaway... A BIG thank you!

Quick question: Other than flying to Bangor, what other airport might work with a longer drive? I%26#39;m finding only connecting flights from Fort Myers airport (Or Fort Lauderdale) to Bangor-LGA, EWR, PHL

Fly into Portland. JetBlue and others fly into that airport. You will have to stop in JFK with JetBlue, but can probably find direct flights with other airlines.

In addition to Bar Harbor, check out the mid-coast area, especially Boothbay Harbor.
