Day trips from Bar Harbor?

We are planning our first trip to Maine in August this year for 6 days. We will fly into Bangor and hopefully find a B%26amp;B in the Bar Harbor area?? I%26#39;m trying to plan day trips - - any suggestions?

I found the Wild Blueberry Festival is scheduled for Aug 14-16 and plan to spend a day there. Whale watching too and possibly a carriage ride or trail ride if available??

Is a drive to Booth Bay Harbor feasible for a day trip and back?

Eating the best seafood is high priority!

Day trips from Bar Harbor?

Boothbay is a pretty long drive for a day trip, but it is doable. A better day trip may be down to the Camden/Rockland area. It%26#39;s a two hour drive and you also go through a couple of nice seaside towns along the way. You can go to the top of the observation tower at the Penobscot Bridge - the only one in the United States.

Day trips from Bar Harbor?

I agree that a day trip to Boothbay Harbor would be a stretch.

As to B%26amp;Bs, check out:

For other activities, a good source is:

Carriage rides are provided through Wildwood Stables, which is a concession of Acadia National Park:

http://www.nps.gov/acad

will have the details.

Another source for things to do, where to eat is:

http://www.ouracadia.com

which is a private web site operated by a frequent visitor to the island.

If you%26#39;re looking for the rocky coast away from the crowd, check out the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park -- maps and info available at the Acadia National Park visitors center as you approach Bar Harbor. Less hustle and bustle than the Mt Desert section of Acadia....nice chance to get out on the rocks and enjoy the ocean, rocks and sun.

If you decide to take the day trip to Camden-Rockport, the already-mentioned trip to the Observation Deck of the Peobscot Narrows Bridge is a must-do. Just look for the signs to Fort Knox State Park at the end of the big bridge just south of Bucksport. The State Park and Observation Deck share an entrance gate... If you%26#39;re into history, the Fort is also interesting.....

In Camden, another great view is from the top of Mt Battie -- in Camden Hills State Park. You%26#39;ll find the park entrance on US Rt 1 just north of Camden village. Great view from the top of the village of Camden, Camden Harbor and that part of Penobscot Bay.

If you have only six days, and already plan to spend one of them driving to the Wild Blueberry Festival, I%26#39;d say for sure pass on a trip to Boothbay.

The Acadia region has so much to do that you can easily fill the time you have without leaving Mount Desert Island.

Besides, Acadia has everything you%26#39;d find in Boothbay (water, scenery, gardens, hiking, lighthouses, shopping, restaurants) plus mountains. But because so much of Mount Desert Island is national park lands it just seems so much more accessible at Acadia.

I, too, am a big fan of Camden, and if you wanted to spend part of your trip someplace else, I%26#39;d say spend your first or last night there instead of trying to make it a day trip. A day trip will wear you out, especially in August when the traffic could be a bear.

Does anyone now how far the Wild Blueberry Festival is from Bar Harbor? Time and distance?

Maine actually has two festivals called the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival.... one is in the Washington County town of Machias is the heart of most of Maine%26#39;s blueberry country....the other is held as part of the Union Fair in Union, ME -- a small town in the mid-coast region.

Ironically, the answer to your question is the same for either festival -- about 80 miles in distance and two hours driving time from Bar Harbor. Enjoy!!

We%26#39;ve found a cool day trip is to Lubec. You can visit the West Quoddy Lighthouse (most eastern pt in US), walk the nature paths in that park and/or go to Canada%26#39;s Campobello Island. There are some beautiful historic properties to check out there (FDR%26#39;s summer home), a lighthouse and nature walks. It%26#39;s all in the famous Bay of Fundy area. For the food we love Uncle Kippy%26#39;s Seafood restaraunt:)

On the way to Lubec it%26#39;s fun to stop at Jasper Beach for a picnic and check out the beautiful jasper stones!

We usually leave around 8 am and are back to BH by 8. It%26#39;s a full day.

If you plan to go to Campobello, remember that it%26#39;s part of Canada and you%26#39;ll need your passport or passport card to get back into the country!
