4th of July weekend?

I am trying to map out our itinerary for our first visit to Maine.....looks like we will be arriving in Portland on Saturday evening (4th of July). Does Portland have a fireworks display on the 4th? (Our town has their celebration on the 3rd every year!) We will be spending Sat and Sun nights in Portland, then off to Bar Harbor for several days. Any suggestions on accomodations in Portland-close to the water? We just need a clean, quiet, comfortable room......I haven%26#39;t really done my research yet-just trying to get travel plans in place! Thanks!

4th of July weekend?

Inn By the Sea in Cape Elizabeth is very nice. Great water views and a dining room on site. Cape Elizabeth is a southern suburb of Portland. Right in the Old Port, the Hilton Garden Inn is the hotel closest to the water. However, the water in the Old Port is more of a working waterfront whereas the water view at Inn By the Sea is more oceanfront, dotted with small fir-covered islands.

4th of July weekend?

Yes, there are fireworks on the 4th. If you were there the night before, you could also see the fireworks presented by the Portland Sea Dogs (baseball team).

The fireworks display the City of Portland does every July 4 is really good, one of the best in Maine each year. If you stay at the Hilton Garden or the Portland Regency (not quite on the water but close) it is about a half mile walk to the Eastern Promenade (Largely uphill) where the viewing is best.

Cape Elizabeth is very nice in the summer, too. It depends if you want to be in a city or not.
