We have 8 days to fill from leaving Cape Cod on 29th June to arriving Logan Airport late 6th July. We will have done Boston and the route down to Newport and Cape Cod. Can anyone suggest a scenic round trip from the Cape taking in north of Boston to Bar Harbor. We can travel up the freeway from the Cape to Boston area as we have explored this area before Info on accommodation would be good.
8 days to fill Maine
Perhaps the best two references for accommodations in the Bar Harbor area are:
http://www.acadiamagic.com
which has links to several different types of accommodations, and
http://www.sleepbarharbor.com
which is the web site for Bar Harbor Bed %26amp; Breakfast Association.
8 days to fill Maine
Salem, Massachusetts might be nice. They do witch tours and stuff like that. Portsmouth, New Hampshire is nice.
Once in Maine, the towns to see south of Portland are Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, and Kittery. Portland itself is nice, especially the lighthouses to the south of the town, the Old Port area, and the islands of Casco Bay which can be reached by mailboat.
North of Portland is Freeport, home of the flagship store of LLBean and several other outlet stores. The LLBean store is a trip in itself. It has an indoor lake and fish tank. A good lunch restaurant in Freeport is the Azure Cafe.
If you stay on Route 1 going north from Portland you will eventually come to Camden, which is a very nice sailing town with good lodging and restaurants.
With just 8 days to fill I might be tempted to skip everything south of Portland and just spend some time in Portland itself, Camden, and then Bar Harbor and the Acadia National Park area. Lots to do in the Acadia region and you could do day trips to Stonington, Isle au Haut, Campobello and the like.
Thank you that%26#39;s great info, hopefully I will be trip together soon with all the help.
