Lunch suggestion for Deer Isle/ Stonington area.

I will be in Bar Harbor in June and I want to take a day trip to the Deer Isle/ Stonington area. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can go for a good seafood lunch in that area or nearby? Also I have been to Bar Harbor and ANP several times but never to the Deer Isle/Stonington area do you have any suggestions on what to do there? I have a 1 year old child so that might limit my choices of things to do.

Thanks!

Jess

There%26#39;s not much choice for lunch on Deer Isle. There are maybe a total of three places open for lunch in Stonington, that I know of. None is much more than a diner.

Just driving around Deer Isle is pretty. The main street in Stonington is only about five blocks long. No side streets to speak of. Stonington was built on a granite quarry. Lots of rock outcroppings. Nice book store, last time I was there. The town of Blue Hill, on the way to Deer Isle, is nice. Not too much there either. Some art galleries, a few dinner restaurants.

You could take the mail boat out to Isle au Haut from Stonington. That could be fun, if it%26#39;s not a windy day. Lots and lots of little islands.

OK thanks. Maybe I will consider taking the mailboat accross to some of the littles islands. That could be a nice trip. Thanks for your help.

I love hiking on Isle au Haut, if your 1 year old likes going in a backpack. We usually take the mail boat to Duck Harbor and then hike back to the other boat dock. It%26#39;s a good hike that takes some time. If you go, bring water and lunch. I think there is only one store and it has always been closed by the time we get there.

Another idea is to head to Brooklin or Blue Hill for lunch. Blue Hill has more options than Brooklin but I%26#39;m partial to Brooklin (which is tiny). I think the Brooklin Inn is open for lunch and also The Lookout at Flye Point. Your one year old would like splashing around at Naskeag Point. We almost always find starfish there. There is a wonderful shop with handblown glass bead jewelry in Brooklin, as well.

You could hike up Blue Hill, the view from the top is wonderful. There is also a nice farmer%26#39;s market at the fair grounds Saturday morning.

Sorry, not much help with Stonington. We always visit and walk around but I can%26#39;t think of other things to do. There are a couple of places to eat, one or two with nice decks overlooking the water.

Enjoy your trip.

Enjoy your visit.
