Hi,
I just found an opening for three nights at the Isleview Motel and cottages starting on July 6th in Bar Harbor and will be exploring the area and Acadia National Park.
Does anyone on this forum have any experiences at this Motel? I booked a cottage. The pictures look good.
We will be coming from New York City and checking with map quest it says it will be a nine hour drive.
My question is does anyone have any suggestions for breaking the trip up with a place to stop on the 5th and also we could spend a couple of nights elsewhere on our return trip back to NYC.
We are a family of four, kids ages 9 and 13. Just want to enjoy the views, nature and some good seafood. Not into the touristy stuff....we hail from Orlando so we get enough of that at home:)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
New York City to Bar Harbor...what in between?
Sorry one more question...
How cold can it get in July?
We want to take some boat tours, will I need to pack coats or just fleece and sweaters?
Thanks!

Fleece and sweaters should be enough in July in Maine. It does get quite chilly out on the boats. But you%26#39;ll be alright, probably. When the fog rolls in at night in Bar Harbor, you%26#39;ll be happy for a sweater or a fleece pullover.
As for what%26#39;s between NYC and Bar Harbor, Boston, of course. But realistically you could break the trip in Portland, Maine. There are nice lighthouses that are accessbile there. The Old Port area is a good place to walk and sightsee. Great seafood in Portland at Street and Company. Interesting lunch in Portland at Duck Fat. Just north of Portland is Freeport, home of the flagship store of LLBean complete with an indoor fish pond.
On your return trip you could spend a night in Camden, Maine, a quintessential sailing town. Or you could do the whole Witch tours thing in Salem, Mass just to the north of Boston. That might be fun for the kids.
