Hi...Are there any Lobster Pots on the side of the road coming into Bar Harbor where you can get hopefully the freshest of lobsters cooked for you right there?
Lobster pots
A lobster pot is another name for a lobster trap. A lobster pound is a roadside restaurant where lobsters are steamed and eaten. Yes, there are several lobster pound restaurants just before you cross the bridge onto Mount Desert Island where Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are located. The most popular seems to be the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound.
It is arguable whether or not the lobsters are any cheaper or any fresher at lobster pounds than they are in the restaurants of Bar Harbor, where you get to eat good food without also breathing in the road exhaust.
Lobster pots
Pectic Seafood, originally in Hall Quarry, has opened a new restaurant/lobster pound in Trenton, on the right as you head towards MDI. They are open year round, have inside seating and crab, scallops, frozen entrees as well as gourmet staples. As they say %26#39;if life gets hectic, go to Pectic%26#39; : )
If you%26#39;re picking up cooked lobster to take back to your cottage/house, then the suggestions above are excellent. If you%26#39;re wanting to eat them at the lobster pound, I suggest driving over to Thurston%26#39;s Lobster Pound on the Southwest side of the island (in Bernard). They are located in a small cove where the lobstermen moor their boats. The view is beautiful and you won%26#39;t be sitting right by the main road. If you get there in the mid afternoon, you may see the lobstermen unloading their catch of the day.
