It takes about 4 hours vs 3 hours if you took the interstate.

It also depends on the time of year you%26#39;re considereing making the trip....





This time of year, there%26#39;s little tourist traffic and you can move right along.





By early June, tourist traffic has started to build and you%26#39;ll see seasonal slow-downs at some places along US Route 1 -- downtown Wiscasset is probably the worst, where you could see bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go traffic for two to three miles -- not bad by some standards, but considered ';bad'; for Maine. Other places where Rt 1 can get ';backed up'; would include downtown Freeport, perhaps Bath, and to lesser degrees, downtown Bucksport and downtown Ellsworth.





Not suggesting you stay away from Rt 1....only that if you%26#39;re traveling it between early June and late September, you probably want to add half an hour or so to allow for traffic congestion (Maine style).
