Fall trip plan

Two years ago I enjoyed an exquisite October visit to Acadia. Among all of the hiking and biking, we also scheduled time to visit both micro-breweries on the island and to have massages at the Bar Harbor Inn%26#39;s spa, which is lovely. You might want to check out ';Tips for Fall Trips'; on the Web site below:

Seems like a pity to come to merry Olde New England and stay in cookie-cutter Hampton Inns. Rather than North Conway, I%26#39;d stay in one of the old lodges in Jackson, NH, just up the road from North Conway. North Conway is only known for its outlet stores. Jackson is much more quintessential New England.

The Bar Harbor Inn near Acadia is a nice choice, right on the water with sunrise views from some rooms. On the other hand, there are many nice Bed and Breakfast inns in Bar Harbor. See sleepbarharbor.com for a wide choice.

Brunswick, ME doesn%26#39;t really have much to offer. Why not go down to Portland or Freeport? In Portland you could stay in the Old Port section with its brick roads and small shops. The Portland Regency would be a great place to stay and Fore Street that evening would be a wonderful meal. Or in Freeport you could stay at a Bed and Breakfast and visit the L.L. Bean flagship store, open 24 hours. Azure Cafe would be a great place to eat in Freeport.

bonniemaev,

I took your advice and searched for inns with availability in Jackson and found the Eagle Mountain Inn. Do you know anything about it? Thanks

Don%26#39;t know much about the Eagle Mountain Inn. Looks nice. Huge! You%26#39;ll love Jackson. So much better than North Conway which is a big strip development.

Good advice to stay in Jackson rather than North Conway (we made that mistake). Please take time to enjoy and explore the waterfalls there. Also, highly recommend going to the top of Mt Washington. We drove it (fun but little scary coming down) but there is a cog railway also. It was very windy and cold on top on a gorgeous early October day when we visited. It%26#39;s a beautiful area--have a great trip!
